Today we speak about a  wine that once you try you do not forget.

The wine is a Valpolicella Ripasso by Azienda Piccoli, cuvée name “Caparbio”, literally “obstinate” or stubborn…for better translation check your preferred dictionary 🙂

The winery is located in Parona di Valpolicella, Italy. Valpolicella is in Veneto region, north of the city of Verona.

grape varieties: Corvina 40% Corvinone 25% Rondinella 30% and 5% of other varieties Oseleta, Molinara and Croatina.
alcohol level 13.5%
aged in French oak barrels for 15 months

What is a Ripasso??

Ripasso takes its name after being “re-passed” by second fermentation which consists of a Valpolicella wine being in contact with the skins and lees from the Amarone grapes of the same vintage. It gives the Ripasso a much darker and complex taste .The maceration lasts from ten to twenty days and allows the transfer of sugars, color, polyphenols and softness of the skins.

Tasting notes:

On the nose the wine is fruity with notes of black berries, caramel, fresh figs and kaki. Slightly pencil shavings and tobacco.

In the mouth is elegant, structured,  with nice and silky tannins, very concentrated and supple. Aged in French oak barrels for 15 months, it has a lot of elegance and complexity. Fresh enough, not boring even after the second glass. Ideal for surprising your diners with a special wine, with a unique style. And…it is Not expensive!

P.S. It is not important in terms of the taste but I have to say that…the label looks amazing  🙂
